Morelia Cathedral
The baroque heart of Morelia, rising 70 metres above the historic center.
About this experience
Morelia Cathedral
Built between 1660 and 1744 in pink quarry stone, the Morelia Cathedral is one of the finest baroque temples in the Americas. Its twin 70-metre towers are visible from almost anywhere downtown and set the rhythm of daily life around the Plaza de Armas.
Inside you'll find a monumental German pipe organ with 4,600 pipes, the silver baptismal font and the celebrated Señor de la Sacristía sculpted from corn paste. Every Saturday night the façade is lit with a free fireworks and music show.
Insider tips
- Arrive early on Saturday to grab a seat in the atrium before the light show.
- Free guided visits are offered most mornings — ask at the side door.
